Art Camp
Summer 2023
Creating Art is a fun activity... but these camps are more than just fun! Some days it gets a little messy... and we have music going and conversation and laughter. The atmosphere is almost party-like, and at the end there are beautiful works of art produced! The attitude of every student is to have fun and explore their creativity, and they also encourage and help each other! I'm usually amazed by the kindness - there's more than art being learned here. While teaching, I balance technique with creativity, and apprentice these future artists on the basics of drawing, painting and sculpture. All of the materials are provided for each project. Drawing is an activity we will work on for a part of every week. I can teach many drawing secrets that will quickly raise your child’s skill level. This will give them a lot of confidence with any of the other mediums that we work with. Besides drawing basics we will be using other dry color media such as chalk and oil pastels. We may be painting in watercolor and acrylics, and we will do sculpture in a couple of mediums. Each week we do different activities with different mediums, so if you register for 2 weeks, different lessons will be in each week (See the Themes Schedule below). These are real art materials, and we will be producing real art, not kids crafts. These classes are limited to 7 students per class. In this way I can assure you that each student will receive individual instruction. Art Camp is designed for ages 7 and up most of the activities are too advanced for a child younger than 7. Teen Camp is more advanced work for students older than 12. Camp Schedule: Session 1: June 12-16 Session 2: June 19-23 Session 3: June 26-30 Session 4: July 10-14 Teen Camp Session 5: July 17-21 Session 6: July 24-28 Sessions are 3 hours long, from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Art Camp Has a different theme every week - Themes will not change, but some projects and the materials we work with may, because I will often design a lesson specifically for the students in that class. A note for students who have been in my camps before: if you've already done any of these projects it is possible for you to do something completely different, using the materials that are planned for that class. You already know that I encourage creativity and bravery. I'm excited to work with you again! Wonders of Nature Session 1, June 12-16, and Session 5, July 17-21 Our world is filled with so many awe-inspiring wonders. From the smallest creatures to the highest mountains to the skies that shine with color, there is no end to the inspiration that an artist finds in nature! How can we capture as much as possible in a week? We'll certainly try. Drawing, painting, and sculpture are all included in this camp. You are an ARTIST Session 2, June 19-23, and Session 6, July 24-28 You have a creative voice inside of you that is uniquely yours! Let’s have fun exploring ways to express it. We’ll get inspired by the work of some famous artists (they were all unique, too!) and then, we’ll produce our own art, adding imagination and a ton of creativity as we make our own personal masterpieces. Drawing, painting, and sculpture are all included in this camp. We also explore the basics of art: line, shape, value, texture, pattern, space, and color. Mythical Lands Session 3, June 26-30 Sprinkle yourself with pixie dust and come along as we create our own legendary destinations and their inhabitants. We may be under the sea with mermaids or under a misty fern forest with little fairies - Our imagination is unlimited! Drawing, painting, and sculpture are all included in this camp.
